was established by Donald Reid, an Environmental Lawyer, for carrying
out consultancy and research into environmental law and policy, and for
the promotion of Earth Law. It is closely linked with EnAct in South Africa.

Gaia (Brazil)
is committed to environmental education and the advancement of soft, socially
compatible technologies are the main focus of activities for Fundação
Gaia. The organisation was founded by José Lutzenberger, the “father
of Brazil’s environmental movement”, and is now being run by
his daughter, Lara Lutzenberger. http://www.fgaia.org.br COAMA
(Colombia),
established by Dr. Martín von Hildebrand in 1989, provides the
framework for the empowerment of indigenous peoples communities and tropical
forest protection in the Colombian Amazon. Gaia Amazonas, the lead NGO
in this process, works directly with indigenous organisations on education,
health, legal training and territorial ordering; and facilitates inter-cultural
dialogue with government and other entities. Centre
for the Story of the Universe (USA),
established by Brian Swimme, provides an entry point for learning about
current evolutionary cosmology. An online course, books and DVDs provide
insight into the “process of transformation that carries us from
the destructive nature of our western culture to a new era of well being
throughout the planet, for every form of life”. |

Ngwenyama
School of Traditional Medicine (Botswana)
provides training for traditional doctors, a traditional clinic, and works
with healers from the Tswana and other cultures to help conserve medicinal
plants, local knowledge and biodiversity. Institute
for Sustainable Development (Ethiopia),
established by Dr. Tewolde Berhan Egziabher, carries out action research
into ‘sustainable development’ and cultural biodiversity.
It works with local communities, on water-harvesting and agri-biodiversity
techniques; with schools and youth groups on environmental education;
and research support to the Ethiopian government. Green
Belt Movement (Kenya),
founded by Wangari Maathai, has worked in environmental conservation and
community development in Kenya for over 25 years. It engages communities,
mainly women, in tree planting, throughout Kenya and in other African
countries, as an entry-point for civic education, advocacy, food security,
and the empowerment of women. EnAct
(South Africa) is
a specialist environmental law and policy consultancy based in Cape Town,
co-founded by Cormac Cullinan. With extensive experience of working with
governments, international organizations and NGOs, it provides an important
entry-point for the promotion and practical implementation of Earth Law. |
